Sir'" Isaac Newton (1642-1727)
At nineteen Newton went to study at Cambridge University. In his second year he went back to his home in the country because of the plague. One day Newton saw an apple fall from the tree in the garden. He realised that the Earth had something that pulled all things to it. He called this 'something' gravity.
Back at Cambridge, Newton went on to study the stars. He designed a telescope that used mirrors. He was also the first person to realise that white light is made from red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple light mixed together.
Now why did that happen?
Queen Anne gave Newton the job of looking after the Royal Mint. In 1705 she made him Sir Isaac Newton because of his good work there.
